Have you ever been driving down the interstate and see a truck and boat just sitting there? Well, if so here are some things that should have been checked prior to towing the boat. These are some things that you should do even for short trips. REMEMBER the boat only looks as good as the trailer that gets it to the lake.
1. Check the lights to make sure that they work properly and ALL work. Repair as needed
2. Trailers with brakes make sure to check for wear and that they work correctly. Check brake fluid for surge brakes. Replace if needed.....
3. Check springs and suspension for wear and tear. If the trailer is used in or around salt water rinse after every use.
4. Check tires for dry rot, pressure, and wear. Replace if needed.....
5. Remove wheels and checks bearings for wear. If they need be replaced be sure to replace the races also.
6. Check the wheels and hubs for wear and rough spots and turn or replace if needed.
7. Stow all loose gear in boat
8. Drain all fuel and water from boat. Remove the plugs in the hull and drain all water from ballasts and bilge.
9. Disconnect the battery
10. All electronics must be stowed properly
11. Antennas, flags, lights, and anchors must be stowed away
12. Latch windows and tape from the outside
13. Any work needing to be done please have it performed by a qualified service team.
